Morning scare, complete with ambulance and emergency room visit

This morning, my husband got up and complained that he was hurting in his lower abdomen, on the left side.  The pain intensified and he ended up on his knees with his head on the couch.  He was in so much pain.  I was watching him, trying to figure out what to do.  Asking him, “Do you want me to take you to the hospital?”–When all of a sudden…he said…I think I am going to pass out.

The next thing I knew he fell back…hit his head hard on the floor…   He made some horrible sounds…and then silence.  His eyes were wide open, he was not breathing, and his whole body was cold and clammy.  I called 911.

He came to not long after that…but was very disoriented.

The EMT came in and took him to the hospital.  I met him there, but by the time I did, he was feeling better.  Thank God.

They did a CAT scan of the area and determined it was a Kidney stone.  They could see it in his bladder.  They could also see a couple more in his kidneys.

We were sent home with some prescriptions and a screener to see if he can catch it to have it analyzed by a lab.

Hoping that when that thing does come out, it doesn’t hurt him again!

It was draining.  And afterwards I had a mini binge.  Fear, anxiety, stress…my usual triggers…   We were both so exhausted we took a nap…woke up feeling a little sick to my stomach.

Just grateful it is over…and he is ok.

He said when he was out, he said he went to a very peaceful place and there were colors that were more beautiful than he has ever seen.  He is convinced he may have gone to heaven.  He said he did not want to come back when he was there.

Kidney stones are no fun. I hope he heals quickly. And forgive yourself for the binge. It was a natural response to a very terrifying, mind blowing situation. Just pick up where you left off and move on. You might also want to make a plan for when the next emergency comes along.

You had the scare of your life today. So, if you fell off the wagon a bit..it doesnt matter. What matters is that your husband is ok and you are too now. Bless you both. Love Debbie

Jeff went thru that about a year ago…said it was the most painful thing ever. He was curled in a ball on the bathroom floor. I hope your hubby has gone thru the worst of it and feeling better. Guess he didnt want to come back to that pain :)

wow…see… now your husband will know some of the excrutiating pain of childbirth… passing kidney stones is awful. Awful!!! He’s in for a rough ride. And…. dont tell him this now… but the beautiful colours and calmness he felt when he wentunconcious, was more than likely as a result of him banging his head. He shocked his nervous system, probably causing nerves running into his head to fire all at once.

Glad everything is going to be fine…

How scary for you!! I am glad that it all worked out o.k. I hear that Kidney Stones are awful, so I will be praying for him!!

Oh my goodness how scary, I am glad he is okay but who would want to come back to this chaotic world after seeing that? It wasn’t his time and he has more missions to accomplish like the rest of those who are here. Figuring out how to control your eating and emotions is one of those things for us.

wow, chrisie — how terrifying — but, weird that he would go OUT like that just b/c of a kidney stone — fainting from pain, yes, but not breathing??? make sure the docs check him out thoroughly!
i passed out once after the delivery of my first child — scared my hubby to death!!!
i was just mad that he woke me from such a DEEP peaceful sleep — i felt afterwards that i had slept 10 hrs instead of 10 secs!!! BUT,no wonderful colors or dreams — just sleep!
my prayers are with you both!!
my uncle said that passing a kidney stone is as close as men can get to the feeling of childbirth — i disagree — you can’t even see the darn tiny things — unlike what we push out!!! ;D

Oh wow, sure give you my prayers! Don;t feel bad about the eating, tomorrow is a new day. So glad he is ok! Hugs, Kama
