A diet of words?…the words we eat and why

Had a long (and wonderful;) conversation with a friend today…and this came up…so I had to blog about it.
This person drank something called a “Mudslide”. She was upset a little, because it had a bazillion calories.
As we were talking, we both started to realize that maybe she chose this drink because the name was almost what she was doing.
Let me explain. She was going through a stressful situation that she couldn’t control. Maybe she was starting to do things to sabotage her successes…so subconsciously she chose this drink because she was trying to communicate something…or (seemingly) gain control of her situation.
So that got me thinking…
When I was binging, I used to eat foods with meaningful names…maybe they were communicating something too.
I used to love ice cream, two of my favorite flavors…Heavenly Hash or Death By Chocolate.
What was that REALLY saying? Well, when I stop and think about it. I think I was saying, I want to escape, get away from it all…I’d even die…and this is going to help me do it! My life as a single mom was so stressful…I could see why.
I would also crave Dove Chocolates, and eat them by the bag full, but was it “peace” I was really hungry for?
Fast Food would also call to me, come on and “Have it Your Way” and “You deserve a break today”. Why not “Make a run for the border?”
So let me know,
Are there are foods that are still calling your name?
Foods that you are still reaching for?
What are they saying to you, or about you?
What is it you are really hungry for!?

Wellllll, I used to really love Burger King ‘Whoppers’ and now I prefer ‘Smart Ones’. What do you think about that? lol

ha! Well, I think you MUST be getting smarter:) lol
I was craving Krackles and chocolate this weekend and I KNOW WHY…. Perhaps I feel like I am cracking, but mostly I think I just wanted salty snacks. And since I had chocolate mousse I really do not want to believe that I think I am a moose. Ha! It was such a better choice then going to get a whole chocolate bar which at this time of the month I WOULD have eaten the whole thing and not the regular sized one either. Interesting topic. I do not think to read others comments but I want to remember to come back and read what others say.
Have a great weekend Chrisie!
Hmm…this is one to ponder…I can’t think of anything right off the top of my head right now. But, it does make sense. Most of the time these days I have been craving “Wheat Thins”. Thinking I want to be thin!!! I have only given in twice so far and both times I ate one serving (150 cals) for a snack. Oh!! And much like Sandy, I’ve been craving Smart Ones desserts! hehe

Chrisie, your blog sure made me think.

Like Sandy and Catrina! I have gone from craving Big Macs and Whoppers to Smart Ones!
Big HUGS!
I cant find a link in mine. I always craved M&M Mcflurries and I dont think I melt in anyones hands and I hate the cold so I cant see a connection. Now a days I crave fresh fruit and yogurt like the parfait from McDonalds so I am the boring one who is so off kilter her snacks dont even connect LOLOLOLOLOL
Advertising and choices in naming products is so interesting. When I choose to indulge and it is too frequent, I “reward” myself. I am tired….. I am stressed…. I deserve a treat, etc. I think I was raised to view certain foods as treats. In some ways as rewards. (I am sorry to say that I have done the same as I have raised my children, although all my children are of a good weight and relatively toned. Ah, youth.) Anyway, I was not surprised to see a starbucks sign yesterday with a yummy 530 calorie grande Caramel Frappuccino and the words “reward yourself” under the pic. Drains your pocketbook and your reserve.;) It is our society. Want a refocus…….watch “Super size me” DVD. In an aside…. my favorite poison is peanut M&Ms. I won’t stop.

What can I say, Yarrow? You’re nuts!, but sweet. lol
This seems a bit far fetched to me. I don’t think so literally about the foods I eat. When I think of a “mudslide” for eg, I think of a sweet, cold alcoholic beverage. I had never even associated it with an actual mudslide until you just did. But interesting nontheless.
Very interesting Chrisie. I’m gonna have to look closely at the names of my food before I eat them…hehehe. No mudslides! Not going down that path.
Maybe I was way off…hmmm…now I am craving some “smarties”.
Thanks for the comments everyone!
