Scale, friend or foe?
I weight myself everyday and for those that don’t know…I HAVE to…because I am part of a research project.
Last week I was upset to see the scale go up…because TOM came and was causing me trouble.
But TOM is really going down…he maybe down for the count.
So today, I am excited because the scale, now my friend, gave me my newest reading of…241 and I got my first white star… So that is 8 lbs since I started the reseach project on May 5th.
I also have a feature on my scale that tells me my body fat level as well as my water content. When I started this whole process…April 18th…my body fat was reading 51%…now it says 45%. My water used to say 27.5 and now it is 38.0.
That is good news!!!!
I think that I read that the more muscle you have the more water your body has…so, it is good that they are both moving in the right direction.
So what is my conclusion….
The scale is not friend nor foe. It is just an instrument that helps you be aware of what is going on within your body. Attaching emotion to it is dangerous, therefore do not let it rule your emotions! Only use it to help you monitor yourself…as you love yourself into healthier habits! If you are commited to being healthy and you do the stuff…the weight loss will come!

I totally agree with you. We put so much into the reading that comes out. Even if I have a great week and the scale doesn’t reflect what I think it should it can cause me to become down instead of celebrating the good things. I have put my scale away and only weigh once a week. I know you have got to weigh everyday and it is great you have this outlook on it!
PS: Forgot the most important thing of all - great job on the weight loss!!!!
My wife and I have a running joke.
Every morning when I weigh in, she asks “What did the scale say??”
To which I reply
“Oooooomph!”
or
“…get…offf…. of ME!!!!!”
or
“Good Lord, you’re freakin’ heavy!”
You have to love your scale. Talk nice to it. Make it WANT to be your friend.
Yup, one of my hard deals not putting emotion into that darn thing….cause I’ll feel good get on and it won’t be what I think it should.
But that’s a journey as well learning how to balance food and scale.
Great Job on your weight Loss……..keep it up your doing fabulous!

Right ON Sista Friend… RIGHT ON!!!!
I think it should be how healthy we are… not what our weight is.
And HIGH FIVERRRRRRRRRRS on the readings. Betcha feel pretty good … more energy too!
Big HUGGGGGGGGGGS,
Shan
Oooh, congrats!!!! We let that scale dictate to us too much, I think. Hugs, Kama

Yay!! Whoo hoo!! I’m so proud of you!!! Thank you for the motivation!
i needed to hear that today. my scale seems to have something wrong with it… you see everytime i step on it it won’t go lower than 145, lol. no, but seriously, i was feeling pretty crummy since i’ve been doing everything right - 1200 cals a day, aerobics 5x a week, walking and yoga everyday… yet i have weighed 145 for 7 days now. it’s distressing, because, there’s not much else i can do to make myself lose. last week was a good week (3 lbs), so is it just catching up with me?? it’s not my TOM, or anywhere near it - actually i was losing really good durning that anyhow… it’s just that looking at the math, i know that i’ve burned at least 3500cals in the last 7 days, so why is that scale still reading 145??

Thats great news for you and your scale. I like the idea of not attaching emotions to it (easier said than done). Its funny how something so small is such a GIANT influence in our mood.
You know, it’s funny but when I know I’m eating healthy and doing my wogging/water aerobics I don’t obsess near as much over what the scale says. It’s when I know that I have “cheated, just a little…not really very much, in fact I shouldn’t really even count it” that I find myself wanting/dreading to weigh myself compulsively.
I really like what you said about “loving ourselves into healthier habits”. I will try to remember to do that.
Congratulations!!!! sista! You are such a motivation to me. Keep the success stories comming!
Yay for you! I am so happy for you. I weigh every morning because I have to but because I just like to make sure I am not dreaming. I only count my Saturday AM weigh in though because my body flucuates between a 2-3 pound thing all week. I am hoping my scales says Saturday what it said this mroning!

Fantastic on your weight loss girl! I agree 100% with you that you shouldn’t let the scale control your emotions, but that’s easier said then done. I’m always working on that too - not get upset if I don’t lose anyting or stay the same. Keep up the good work
You are awesome!! Great job on the weight loss, muscle gain, and getting rid of TOM!! Keep up the good work and amazing attitude!
Oh Chrisie, I’m so proud of you and happy for you! That is a very nice number, I’m looking forward to seeing it pretty soon too. I’m glad I don’t have to weigh everyday, cause I don’t my attitude would be as good as yours!
congrats!
my scale and i definitely have a love/hate thing going on.
i love to throw clothes over it and it hates to tell me what i want to hear.
bah.
keep up the good work!

easier said than done, I never weight myself because its too hard for me!
